IEDC has its own faculty, educated at Harvard, Stanford, Kellogg Business School, IMD, INSEAD and the London School of Economics, and more than 50 renowned visiting professors, many of them from the best European and North American business schools and other management development institutions from about 30 countries. The reliance on professors of different nationalities brings a real life appreciation of different cultures and perceptions right into the classroom. Close cooperation with numerous local and international management consultants contributes to successful interlinking and interaction of contemporary management theory and practice.

Ahmad Arshad

Arshad ahmadDr. Ahmad earned his MBA & Ph.D. at McGill University and is presently an Associate Professor at the Finance Department in the John Molson School of Business (JMSB) at Concordia University. JMSB is one of the leading business schools in Canada with over 6,000 students.

Dr. Ahmad’s academic career has focused on research, pedagogical innovation as well as community and professional development. For his PhD thesis, he validated an open learning model that earned him the George L. Geis best dissertation award in higher education.

In 1999, Dr. Ahmad introduced Concordia’s first web based course, which is the largest of its kind in Canada. He also received significant funding from Canada’s Office of Learning Technologies to encourage entrepreneurship among youth in aboriginal and minority communities. He has authored several textbooks including Personal Finance (4th edition) that is used across the country, and Corporate Finance: A Problems Set (5th edition). He has also published case studies, video series, web-course frameworks and training material.

Dr. Ahmad has won several student based and university-wide awards from Concordia and McGill university as well as the Professor of the Year from the International Executive Development Centre - Bled School of Management. In 1992, Dr. Ahmad was nationally recognized for leadership in teaching with a lifetime 3M Teaching Fellowship. He has also consulted extensively in the private sector in Canada and overseas including firms in Advertising (YellowPages); Banking (Royal Bank of Canada); Beverage (MolsonCoors); Engineering & Construction (SNC Lavelin); Household Appliances (Gorenje Group); Pharmaceuticals (Merck Frosst Canada); Technology (3M Canada) among others.

Dr. Ahmad is also the Program Coordinator for Canada’s only national teaching and educational leadership awards program – the 3M National Teaching Fellowships http://www.mcmaster.ca/3Mteachingfellowships/

He is a founding member of the Institute for the Advancement of Teaching in Higher Education (www.iathe.org) and sits on the Board of Directors for several not-for-profit organizations including the Society for Teaching & Learning in Higher Education (http://www.mcmaster.ca/stlhe/welcome.html)

Dr. Ahmad has been an invited speaker at several Conferences at Colleges and Universities and has led plenary sessions, given pre-conference workshops, presented papers, and led panel discussions across Canada, the US, and overseas including China, Germany, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Pakistan, Russia, Slovenia, Serbia, Trinidad & Tobago. He is known for his ability to design and create learning environments that engage the audience via lectures, case study and other collaborative pedagogies.
