IEDC–Bled School of Management (former International Executive Development Center, hereinafter the IEDC) was established in 1986 by the Slovene Chamber of Commerce, which represents the Slovenian business world. Fueled by the powerful vision of its founding and current director, as well as by the committed work of herself and her wide network of associates, it outgrew Slovenian borders and became one of the most prominent institutions of its kind in Europe.

Milestones
 

1985 A new concept of management education is adopted by the Executive Board of the Slovene Chamber of Economy.

1986
The new program begins; the Center for top management training receives its English name “Executive Training Center”. The first lecturers from abroad come to the Center, among them Prof. Hellmut Schütte and Prof. Jean-Pierre Lehmann, both INSEAD.

1987
Introduction of the first long seminar in English (seven weeks), first international seminar and first seminar of the General Management Program- GMP.

1988
First seminar for IEDC lecturers on methodological preparation of a seminar; the Center has already 34 professors from abroad.

1989
The Center becomes – as the first school in the “New Europe” - a member of EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development).

1990
The Center has 54 professors from abroad; first foreign seminar participants attend the seminar (from Romania, Hungary); the Center changes its name to “Executive Development Center”; articles about it appear in Herald Tribune, Financial Times, Le Monde etc.

1991
Launching of the International Executive MBA. In the conference of deans of management schools from Central and Eastern Europe, the keynote speaker is world-known management guru Tom Peters.

1992
The Executive Development Center changes its statute and its name to “International Executive Development Center” (IEDC).

1993
Establishment of the Central and East European Management Development Association (CEEMAN); launching the Presidents’ MBA program.

1994
First international summer school of management and first presentations of the Center’s programs in foreign countries.

1995
Prof. Danica Purg, Dean and Director of the IEDC, becomes a fellow of the International Academy of Management (IAM).

1996
10th anniversary of the IEDC: an international conference with Peter Drucker (via satellite).

1999
IEDC as one of the first schools in Central and Eastern Europe receives International Quality Accreditation (IQA).

2000
IEDC moves to its new premises near the Lake of Bled and changes its name to the IEDC-Bled School of Management; more than 800 guests from 22 countries attend the inauguration ceremony.

2001
Publication of the first book, a Slovene-English Dictionary of Business Terms, the only book of such type in Slovenia. The American magazine Business Horizons ranges Prof. Danica Purg among the modern gurus of management, while President of the Republic of Slovenia awards her with the “Honorary Order of Freedom”.

2002
The IEDC-Bled School of Management, Faculty of Postgraduate Studies of Management, was awarded the status of a higher educational institution. Establishment of the European Leadership Centre (ELC). The Independent quotes a statement by Peter Hain, British Minister for Europe, that “Bled in Slovenia has the best small business school in Europe”; the statement was soon adopted also by other foreign media.

2003
Beginning of Master of Science in Management studies at the IEDC-Bled School of Management, Faculty of Postgraduate Studies of Management. The first conference of the European Leadership Centre: “Creation of an Agenda for European Leadership”. Beginning of a series of seminars for CEE governments, supported by the Norwegian government.

2004
Beginning of a two-year Executive MBA program. A remarkable international event “Bled to Europe, Europe to Bled”, marking the 1000th anniversary of Bled in Slovenia’s accession to EU. Establishment of the Dubrovnik Leadership Forum. Publishing a book Leaders and Teams – The Winning Partnership.

2005
The most significant international recognition of the postgraduate courses at the IEDC-Bled School of Management: AMBA (Association of MBAs) accreditation for all three MBA programs at IEDC. In its half-an-hour-program, CNN International reports on IEDC for ten minutes.

2006
Prof. Danica Purg becomes a member of the Advisory Board for a landmark conference organized by the Academy of Management and the UN Global Compact, and a member of the European Cultural Parliament.

2007
IEDC-Bled School of Management has found UN Global Compact Slovenia, a Slovenian chapter of UN Global Compact, world's largest corporate global citizenship network.

2008
IEDC-Bled School of Management opens its third building, named Center for Innovative Learning.

2009
IEDC is named among 100 top business schools in the world concerning innovations according to the Aspen Institute’s 2009-2010 edition of Beyond Grey Pinstripes; IEDC was the only school from Central and Eastern Europe to receive this recognition.
