The IEDC Annual International HR Managers' Forum 2018 will address the current demographic challenges and provide insights into the best international practices that could serve the HR professionals. It will also strive to find what strategic and structural shifts should be done in the near future in order to cope with the demographic challenges.

The Changing Society: Implications for the HR Function

Globalization, technological progress, socio-economic, and environmental changes have been reshaping the business sector and consequently have had severe implications for the HR Function.

One of the most crucial challenges in business sector in terms of the HR Function is related to the negative demographic trends. According to the report “Shaping the Future of HR” issued by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM Foundation) and the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a number of emerging and consolidating demographic trends are likely to transform the workplace in terms of gender, age and culture. Therefore, the strategies used by the HR departments of today may in time become completely redundant. Moreover, according to the Boston Consulting Group we will face “a global workforce crisis within the next 15 years, which will affect almost every large multinational company” (BCG, 2017).

Taking into consideration the abovementioned challenges, the most frequent questions dealt with the HR Function are: »how and where to recruit human resources; how to retain the best talents; which way to bridge the gap among different generations; how to tackle the aging workforce; and how to reach and manage globalized workforce?«

All these burning questions will be discussed at the IEDC Annual International HR Managers' Forum 2018, which it will not only address the current demographic challenges and give insights into the best international practices that could serve the HR professionals, but will also strive to find which strategic and structural shifts should be addressed in the near future in order to cope with all challenges. It could be described as an initiative that is placed at the crossroad of governance, business and education.

We warmly encourage HR professionals to attend the IEDC Annual International HR Managers' Forum 2018, not only to learn from best practices, but also to actively co-create strategic steps that should be made in the near future. We promise you a great learning and strategic endeavor where you will be able to explore the platform of the current challenges, anticipate the forthcoming trends and to become a change agent yourself.
