Bled (Slovenia), 6 February 2012

After a welcome reception last night new generations of the One-year and Two-year Executive MBA Class (altogether the 30th and 31st generation of the Executive MBA) began with their studies at IEDC-Bled School of Management. Altogether 43 participants from 12 countries will spend 17 residential weeks at IEDC and work also on intense projects related to selected companies. Participants of the One-year Executive MBA will till their graduation in December 2012 attend four study modules, while participants of the Two-year Executive MBA will till their graduation in December 2013 spend seven study modules at IEDC.

The 43 participants of the newest IEDC Executive MBA generations represent 12 countries: Albania, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Kosovo, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, and Ukraine. Both groups consist of experienced business people, whose average overall and managerial work experience totals 10 and 6 years respectively. 34% of the participants hold top management positions, more than half of them belong to the middle management, while the rest work as experts and specialists. Together in the One-year Executive MBA Class of 2011 and Two-year Executive MBA Class of 2012-13 there are 12 industries represented, with many participants coming from the service, IT and financial sectors. During the 17 residential weeks spent at IEDC, participants will dedicate one week to field studies, and work on the intense projects related to selected Slovenian and foreign companies.

The Executive MBA innovative curriculum features elective courses offering participants flexibility to select out of seven electives three that support their career needs and/or are of their personal interest. IEDC has been also systematically integrating learning from arts and other professions (sport, science etc.) into the MBA curriculum for several years and in such a way encouraging creativity and innovativeness of the participants; the MBA lectures are enriched by a series of guest lecturers from the society at large. IEDC has been also integrating sustainability as a required course in its curriculum, as the School has been putting a strong emphasis on developing business leaders that are not only concerned with the ‘how’ of business, but also with the ‘why’ of business, inviting practicing decision makers to re-think the role of business in society, and reflect on the nature of fundamental business issues, such as profit and value creation. Issues relevant to the role of business in society have always been visibly present in the number of courses, most notably, accounting, finance, operations, and leadership.

The IEDC Faculty is highly international. Professors come from the best business schools in the world, and combining their expertise with local faculty gives IEDC-Bled School of Management a real international flavor.
