"Being a manager already, the President's MBA has enabled me to benchmark my knowledge and skills with peers, and to subsequently guide and inspire me towards new and more challenging personal goals for the future. Learning at IEDC was a very positive and challenging experience and I will surely return in the future."

The IEDC Presidents’ MBA covers a wide range of functional areas, managerial skills, and broader integrative managerial issues. Participants acquire a solid overview of the functional bases that support managerial decision-making. Within this framework there is a wide range of choices available and an individual timetable is set for each participant. The Presidents’ MBA program consists of required courses, eight days of optional courses, an in-company project and extra-curricular activities. The choices and the exact schedule of the courses offered may change from year to year as the IEDC programs evolve.
A solid overview of management expertise and skills
The personalized schedule of the program takes participants through a range of functional areas, providing in-depth coverage of contemporary management concepts, skills and knowledge. This includes concepts of and best practice in Marketing Management, Accounting and Control, Financial Management, Operations Management, Project Management and IT, Strategic Human Resources, Economics for Managers, as well as skill development in Management Communication, Negotiations, Developing and Leading Effective Teams, and Leadership at large. Participants also cover a range of topics to better master Strategic Analysis, Strategic Management, International Business Management Leadership and Change Management, and Corporate Governance and Business Ethics.
Required courses
Participants are supposed to complete all courses in three years. Participants need to select their required courses from the one- and two-year Executive MBA programs. A special Presidents' MBA Leadership Skills Week is organized every second year to cover the required skills courses.
Optional courses
The optional courses further underline the personalized character of the IEDC Presidents’ MBA program. Through these courses participants can concentrate more closely on topics that are of specific interest and relevance to them. To fulfill this part of the requirements, participants are supposed to attend, within three years, at least eight days of different courses from IEDC’s one- and two-year Executive MBA programs or its open seminars.
Project work
Project work is an integral part of the Presidents’ MBA program. In the second year of the program participants start preparing a project on their own organizations under the close guidance of an IEDC professor. Applying their recently acquired management concepts and skills, participants conduct the project in several stages with the ultimate goal of providing an applicable solution to their company.
- In its first part, the project includes a systematic analysis of the industry and of the company in which the participant is employed. The analysis typically includes key trends in the industry, competitive strategies applicable in the industry, SWOT and understanding of the realistic strategic choices for the company, and key priorities to deal with in order to successfully implement the chosen strategy.
- The second part of the project normally focuses on one particular strategic issue for the company, which they analyze in depth, taking into consideration the conclusions of the first part of the project. They develop alternative solutions to the problems identified and create a managerial implementation plan that minimizes implementation risks.
The project work typically includes a systematic analysis of the industry and of the company itself, to determine its competitive positions and identify priorities and areas of possible improvement. Participants then focus on one particular strategic issue, which they analyze in depth.
Extra-Curricular Activities
IEDC provides participants with the opportunity to attend many optional activities: career development sessions, guest lectures, sporting events, and social events. Participants are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these optional activities.
A day during the Presidents’ MBA
A normal working day during the Presidents’ MBA includes several class sessions in the form of lectures, case study discussions or computer simulations as well as individual study and group work. Lectures are from Monday to Friday from 8.30 to 17.00, and on Saturdays from 8.30 to 12.00. The evening workload is usually quite heavy and the working day rarely ends before 22.00 (taking into account group work and individual assignments). |
