New Chapter Co-authored by IEDC Researchers Published in The Authoritative Research Guide to Expatriates
The book explores different types of expatriates across a variety of contexts, including groups that are often overlooked in traditional expatriate literature. One chapter, co-authored by IEDC researcher Tjaša Cankar and colleagues, specifically examines the experiences of ethnically and culturally diverse expatriates.
The book explores different types of expatriates in various settings, including those that are not usually covered in expatriate literature. The chapter , co-written by IEDC researcher Tjaša Cankar and colleagues, focuses on ethnically and culturally diverse expatriates. This addresses a significant research gap in migrant and management literature concerning the experiences of non-WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialised, Rich, and Democratic). By analysing 240 studies from 53 journals, the chapter reveals the distinctive challenges and contributions of these expatriates. It also suggests that recognising the cultural and ethnic diversity among expatriates can improve organisational practices and policies, thereby encouraging a more diverse and inclusive global workforce. The chapter also lays the groundwork for future research into the nuanced experiences of diverse expatriate populations, with the aim of broadening understanding of global mobility and its implications for international human resource management.
