We believe that our Customized Programs have to reflect a true understanding of your organization's management development needs and their links to your current and desired market position. We establish this understanding through an informal information exchange with representatives of your top management team, or perform a formal assessment of your management development needs.
A senior IEDC-Bled School of Management faculty member is assigned as program director in the early stage of program development, while a senior staff member becomes program coordinator in charge of all administrative and logistical issues. This significantly adds to the quality of the communication and to a higher overall satisfaction.
Once we identify an area in which your company needs a management development program, we jointly develop the best format and contents for such a program. Sometimes, a solution can be defined after one or two meetings, while in more demanding situations, program design and preparations can take several months and require a number of meetings between our program director and company representatives.
Depending on the program's complexity and your organization's wishes, we often develop new teaching material, including company related case studies or in-depth research insights.
"Flexibility of solutions at highest quality level" is our hallmark. We prepare customized programs that differ in duration from 1 day to several weeks in modules stretched over a longer period of time, stand-alone programs as well as those that are well integrated into corporate universities, programs that combine learning in classroom with learning by doing, programs in several different languages and on different locations.
Customized programs can take a variety of formats. Most commonly we organize seminars for groups of 15 to 30 participants from the organization, as well as workshops for groups of 10 to 20 participants. Both formats are highly interactive and engage faculty with significant teaching and consulting experience related to the topic, industry and geography in question. While the focus of seminars is typically on presenting innovative concepts well illustrated with examples and case studies, workshops are often more concerned with discussing concrete problems, which participants are facing.
Management development assessment
The main objective of the management development assessment is to determine how well the organization's strategy is supported by the competences of the management team.
Based on strategic documents and a longer interview with the managing director, the assessment team performs confidential, one-hour interviews with the members of the partner's management team (typically first two layers and some high potential mid managers).
As a result, IEDC-Bled School of Management prepares a report with the following findings:
- How well is the strategy known to the managers and how do they interpret it
- What are the true priorities for the management team
- How do managers see their main tasks
- What are the main characteristics of the company culture
- Which competences should managers have and what are their individual and team needs for development
- Description of concrete management development programs that individuals or teams from the company should engage in
Learning by doing is praised as the most effective approach to management development. IEDC-Bled School of Management has built outstanding know-how in management education based on a combination of traditional learning through classroom activities and work on solving "real-life" business problems.
In most programs participants work in teams of 4 to 6 people under the mentorship of senior program faculty. Projects always require a solid amount of analytical work, which leads to an excellent understanding of various managerial tools, models and techniques. On the other side, work in project teams serves as a perfect exercise in teambuilding and "soft" skills, while the need to ensure successful project implementation allows the participants to improve their leadership and change management potential.
Several hundred projects have been prepared in recent years in programs ranging from Executive and Presidents' MBA to some customized programs for corporate clients, covering a variety of topics. Most often topics are related to corporate strategy, strategic marketing issues, new product development, accounting and control, operations improvements, HRM systems, corporate governance, corporate culture and leadership.
